Back to Luxembourg for “Tu te reconnaîtras,” 1973’s winning song and number 57 on the Top 100 Eurovision countdown.
Anne-Marie David performed at Eurovision twice, and is on our list twice. This was her first appearance and her most successful one, as she secured back-to-back victories for Luxembourg. We already know her second: “Je suis l’enfant soleil,” which she sang on behalf of her native France. That song is number 94.

What I Liked
Anne-Marie is a damn good singer. That much was evident after a very grand entry by the orchestra. She belted it into the microphone. I must say, I also appreciated the hand gestures and the emoting. Even though I could only pick up some of the words in French, the emotion helps to sell it.
Other Facts
- This win in 1973 was the fourth for Luxembourg. The country earned their fifth in 1983, and to date have not done it again since. (Luxembourg also had a 30-year absence from the contest.)
- Not a single Luxembourgish winner of the Eurovision Song Contest is from Luxembourg, and David is no exception. Four were French and one was Greek.
- The early 1970s scoring system was strange and unfortunate, but David did quite well in it. So did a few other countries, however: She finished just four points ahead of Spain and six ahead of the United Kingdom.
- Anne-Marie David performed 11th in the 1973 running order. Ironically, she also performed 11th in 1979.
“Tu te reconnaîtras” – Watch It Now
The 1973 contest was kind of trippy, from the orchestra in stadium seating around the performers, to the lighting, to the people in the purple suits from Belgium. You won’t want to miss her performance on YouTube.
