Glam rock and Bella Italia give us our number 23 song on the Eurovision Top 100 list, the 2021 winner “Zitti e buoni.”
When Italy hoisted the trophy again in 2021, it was the first time they had won the Eurovision Song Contest in over 30 years. About half of those years were spent on hiatus from the competition, but with how successful they had been since returning, it was only a matter of time before they captured a win. They did so with a big act that ended up becoming global stars.
Måneskin were not the first “glam rock” band to appear at Eurovision, but they were the first to win. In general, it is rare for a rock song to win the contest, so this was even more of a pivotal moment for Eurovision.

What I Liked
This song was destined for greatness from the first time it was performed, and its appearance at Eurovision only increased its legend. Their staging and presence were professional and polished. These were not newcomers nervous about performing on stage. It was the best song to watch live in 2021 and it’s not particularly close, and this is considering there were other good songs. As the kids say, they killed it.
Damiano’s vocals were good, the song was interesting, and the performance was iconic.
Other Facts
- The Italian act came in fourth in the jury vote with 206 points, about 60 behind Switzerland. However, they won the televote with over 300 points, allowing them to slip past France, who took second.
- Italy went towards the end of the grand final, 24th in the order.
- Because the 2020 contest was cancelled, many acts who were slated to perform in 2020 were asked to return in 2021. However, this was not the case for Italy. Diodato won Sanremo 2020 prior to Covid and was supposed to go to Eurovision, but there was a Sanremo in 2021, which Måneskin won. Given the end result, with all due respect to Diodato, this turned out to be a fortunate call for Italy.
