NEW Eurovision Top 100 All-Time - Number 21 - Grande amore NEW Eurovision Top 100 All-Time - Number 21 - Grande amore

Eurovision Top 100, #21: Grande amore (Italy, 2015)

At number 21 on the Eurovision Top 100 countdown, Italy once again makes an appearance with the trio Il Volo and their song “Grande amore.”

Italy spent almost 15 years away from the Eurovision Song Contest at one point, but when they returned in the 2010s, they were all business.  They churned out one great song after another, with 2015 being in the top tier of Italian entries.  Those who know us know that this is high praise for the song in question, as Italy has had a number of exceptional songs over the years.

What Italy sent in 2015 was a major shift in genre from anything they had sent in modern times, and could not have been more different from what won that contest.  However, could it be that both songs were good?  Find out later in this countdown.

What I Liked

Those three young gentlemen sung this song about as well as human beings could have possibly done it.  As of the 2024 contest and over 1,700 Eurovision songs, this got one of the top-five vocal scores that Euro Yard has ever handed out in our overall rankings.  This style of music was not really mainstream pop in 2015, nor 10 years before or after it, but good music is good music.  It was one of the best vocal performances I have ever heard at this contest, and I have seen it all.

For those who understand un po’ di Italiano, or have been to a Starbucks at all in their lives, you know “grande” can mean big or large.  This performance certainly was grande as well.  They wanted you to be in awe while they were singing, and I was, so it worked.

Other Facts
