ESC 2025 Grand Final Recap: Austria Wins

If you needed a bit of time after the ESC 2025 grand final, we can’t blame you whatsoever.

After all, it was an intense few days, building up to the big finish on Saturday. Once we got there, following about two hours or so of live performances by 26 countries, we flew into the voting, and that’s when it got real. In fact, at times, during the announcement of the points, I’m not sure anyone truly knew what was happening except the scrutineers who had the results in front of them.

Maybe we all could have used a bigger break in between the jury and public votes, but instead, the Swiss hosts ripped that bandage off and we went into the final results. It was a night where I was very glad to have programmed a spreadsheet to let me know how many points were still unallocated, allowing us to call Austria as the winner once Switzerland got a shocking zero points from the televote.

What happened in the ESC 2025 Grand Final, and where do we go from here?

The 2025 Results

Austria, behind JJ’s song “Wasted Love,” won the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. It took in 436 points, which is the lowest point total for a winning song since the current voting format was adopted in 2016. Prior to the 2025 contest, the prior lowest score for a winner was 498 by the Netherlands in 2019. This goes to show how much the votes scattered.

While there were countries that individually received zero points in either the jury or televote segments, no country received zero points overall. The song which came in 26th place was San Marino, receiving a total of 27 points. This was the most points for a last-place entry since Portugal in 2018.

Juries

Winning Austria claimed first place in the jury segment, taking 258 points. Switzerland was in second with 214, while France, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, Latvia, Greece, Estonia, and the United Kingdom & Finland (tied) rounded out the top ten.

258 points for a winning song by the juries is the lowest since 2022, when Ukraine took 192 points and finished fourth.

13 individual countries received a douze-point score from the juries, with Austria getting the most (8), followed by Italy (6).

Televote

Israel won the 2025 televote with 297 points. Despite finishing in second last year, this score actually represented a reduction from last year, as they received 323 in 2024.

Estonia, Sweden, Austria, and Albania rounded out the top five.
