NEW Eurovision Top 100 All-Time - Number 29 - Everyway that I can NEW Eurovision Top 100 All-Time - Number 29 - Everyway that I can

Eurovision Top 100, #29: Everyway That I Can (Turkey, 2003)

Getting high up the Eurovision Top 100 list, at number 29, we have Turkey’s Sertab Erener and her 2003 winning song, “Everyway That I Can.”

Turkey’s one and only win at the Eurovision Song Contest was a strong performance.  She had to fight hard to get that victory in what was a very close result, but it’s a good thing that she did, because her native country deserved this win, and so did she.

Sadly, Turkey no longer participates in Eurovision.  As of the 2025 contest, it has been over a decade since they last appeared, and with their government being what it is, a return looks unlikely in the short to medium-term.  However, Turkish Eurofans can hold their heads high that one of their own delivered not only a win, but one of the best Eurovision performances of all-time.

What I Liked

What a great beat to this song.  It had a very Turkish feel and it was catchy.  I think it was one of the best beats of any Eurovision song in the 2000s.

This song was well-staged.  The outfits were on-point, the dancing was not too much or too little, but the star was the large ribbon extending from Sertab in four directions.  They utilized it well and it created an interesting illusion on stage that we had not seen up until this point.

Sertab sang fine.  The backing vocals were not as strong, but the energy level and beat of the song overcame any difficulties this may have had.

Other Facts

  • Turkey, behind Erener, finally won Eurovision on their 26th attempt in 2003.  This was also one of just three Turkish songs to finish in the top three all-time.
  • In one of the closest modern finishes, Turkey beat second-place Belgium by just two points.  Russia was a point behind Belgium for third place.
  • Turkey went early in the running order in 2003, performing fourth out of 26 songs.
  • Sertab performed this song in the interval of the second semifinal at Eurovision 2024.
