Eurovision Top 100 All-Time - Number 54 - Vuelve conmigo Eurovision Top 100 All-Time - Number 54 - Vuelve conmigo

Eurovision Top 100, #54: Vuelve conmigo (Spain, 1995)

Next up, at number 54 on the Eurovision Top 100 countdown, it’s Spain’s “Vuelve conmigo”, performed by Anabel Conde.

The 1990s were a time of huge change for the Eurovision Song Contest.  One thing, however, remained consistent throughout my multiple watches of the shows: the songs with the strongest vocals stood out.  Anabel Conde was one of those performers who got my attention, and the good news is that the juries responded with favor.  She came in second place to Norway’s “Nocturne”.

What I Liked

The song overall was a very polished piece.  I loved the accompanying music behind what was a very strong vocal performance.  Anabel Conde was locked in that night and she was nailing all those big notes.  She ramped up the range even more towards the end.  Love songs are perhaps some of the most common Eurovision songs – and one read through the lyrics makes it clear that this one is – so Spain needed a big performance to set it apart.  Anabel did that.

When you take a good song and pair it with singing like that, there existed a high probability it would move up the all-time list.  It is a shame she was not successful in returning to Eurovision.

Other Facts

  • Spain would go over a quarter of a century before they placed in the top five again – 27 years, to be exact.  That song is on this list.
  • Conde tried to re-enter the contest several more times, but did not succeed in the Spanish national finals.  She did, however, appear as a backing singer for Andorra in 2005.
  • Conde performed ninth in the grand final.
