And now, for a personal favorite of this website: the Eurovision Top 100 countdown turns to “Ooh Aah … Just a Little Bit” at number 60.
This was an iconic Eurovision song which became popular in places such in the United States. I can verify this first-hand, as this is an American website and I remember when this song was big. In fact, I remember being stunned in learning that this was first and foremost a Eurovision entry.
For reasons we will get into, there was a ton to like about the performance, but the juries did not see it that way. (Would not be the first time a collective Eurovision jury screwed it all up.) There might also be some British Eurofans who feel they got shafted in 1996, and they are correct.

What I Liked
This was a high-energy performance which stood out from the pack in 1996. In fact, if this song does not make you want to dance, we can’t be friends. Whenever I hear this song playing, I want to start going hard like those two backup dancers. They left it all out on the field, so to speak.
Gina served pure, unadulterated fun in this performance. This song was the year 1996 wrapped up into a three-minute package. It ended up being an underappreciated (by the juries) number in a period where the United Kingdom was turning out good songs almost every year.
Other Facts
- Gina G was not the first person with Australian ties to perform at Eurovision, and of course, not the last. The following year, the UK would win Eurovision – with an American-born lead singer.
- Because of this song, she was nominated for a Grammy award in 1998 in the “Best Dance Recording” category. The award ultimately went to Donna Summer and Giorgio Moroder for “Carry On.” Had she won, once again, she would not have been the first person to win a Grammy for their Eurovision entry.
- The British song got three douze points in the qualifying round, but only two in the final.
- Gina performed in second position in the 1996 grand final.
