Eurovision Top 100 All-Time - Number 82 - Tattoo Eurovision Top 100 All-Time - Number 82 - Tattoo

Eurovision Top 100, #82: Tattoo (Sweden, 2023)

We welcome Eurovision Top 100 silver-level member Loreen with her 2023 winning song, “Tattoo,” at number 82 on the all-time list.

Loreen’s Eurovision appearances were 11 years apart, but they both ended the same way: In victory for Sweden.  Her first win was in 2012 with “Euphoria” – a song you will definitely see later on this list – and her second was this effort.  Loreen was a heavy favorite entering the contest in 2023, but while she won the juries, did she win the hearts of Europe?

To that I will say yes and no.  It’s a yes in that Loreen is a very popular Eurovision figure, and deserves to be.  However, it’s a no in that the televote was skewed towards Finland and “Cha Cha Cha,” leaving some rubbed the wrong way.  That makes this victory no less deserving, and Loreen became only the second person to win the Eurovision Song Contest twice.  The only other person to do it is Ireland’s Johnny Logan, Mister Eurovision himself, whom will appear on this list as well.

What I Liked

This song was a visual masterpiece.  Just as she did in her first song in 2012, Loreen elevated the staging in 2023.  From the two platforms she sang in between to her sensational nails, she sold the hell out of the performance.

Just like “Euphoria” as well – no surprise here – the song had a certain ethereal quality to it.  Loreen took us to another world.

Aside from the visuals on stage, when one boils it down, this was just straight-up a good song.  Loreen went hard when she started singing the chorus “No I don’t care about them all / ‘Cause all I want is to be loved” and the power and emotion of the lyrics came through.

Other Facts

  • Both Eurovision Song Contests placed in Sweden following a Loreen win were held in Malmö and hosted by Petra Mede.  In a related fact, both are queens.
  • Loreen crushed the jury segment with 15 douze points.  However, she would be upstaged the following year, as Nemo of Switzerland got 22 (“The Code” is an honorable mention).
  • “Tattoo” did not win the televote in any county, though it finished second in eight, and it was second in the televote overall.
  • Sweden went 9th in the 2023 grand final.

If This Song Is Stuck on You Like a “Tattoo”

Then you should watch Loreen’s music video as well as her winner’s performance from Eurovision 2023.
