Next on the Eurovision Top 100 list is a recent favorite, Spain’s “SloMo.” España occupies back-to-back spots in the top 100.
It had been quite some time since Spain got into the top five at a grand final. They have had a number of songs over the years that deserved better – and you may see a few of them further down the list. Not to mention, by 2022, times were tough for Chanel’s country at the Eurovision Song Contest. Six contests in a row, they finished 20th place or below. One of those was a disastrous last-place performance with the voice-crack heard ’round the world.
Spain needed something to go right for them at Eurovision. Enter Chanel.

What I Liked
What makes this song is, of course, the staging and energy. She turned it out in a big way in the 2022 Grand Final. There was an excitement that Spain has not had in one of its acts in a long time. She said it herself in the song: she was there to “break hips” and “break hearts.” Hip replacement would be generally advisable for someone my age attempting to recreate her dance moves.
On my first watch of this final on the big night in 2022, I strongly considered this for my douze points song because of the entertainment value alone. That, however, was not all. Chanel sang more than fine, certainly well enough to warrant her top-three finish in the contest.

- Spain’s bronze-medal performance at the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest was the country’s best finish since Anabel Conde placed second in 1995. (Yes, that song is also on this list.)
- Chanel is Cuban-born, having moved to Europe as a child.
- Ukraine was destined to dominate the televote in 2022, yet Spain finished third in both jury and televote. Chanel and Sam Ryder (UK) each got eight douze points from the juries to lead all countries.
