If you are wondering how Eurovision prep is going in Denmark, then join us in listening to the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2025 songs.
We played through all eight of them and tore them down to their studs with our shiny new scoring rubric. At the end, we will reveal our top four for the contest and make our own pick for Eurovision. Of course, who goes to Basel and who we would have sent might be completely unrelated.
So, When Is Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2025?
DMGP 2025 will take place on Saturday, 1 March. The show will be held on one night only.
Like last year, the jury and public televote will both account for half of the score. The top three will move on to a superfinal, where the process will repeat and a winner will be chosen.
The full national final calendar can be found here.
What Happened in Denmark Last Year?
The winner of DMGP 2024 was “Sand,” performed by Saba. She won the superfinal by three points over Basim, who represented Denmark at Eurovision in 2014.
Denmark finished 12th in the second semifinal of Eurovision 2024. The country is on a losing streak at the competition, having gone four contests in a row without qualifying.

Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2025: Individual Song Reviews
Before we begin, as always: We wish all the performing artists the best of luck, and none of this is personal – it’s just topical discussion.
“Air” (Maria Mathea)
What I Liked: The song itself was decent and she’s not a bad singer. In terms of composition, it was one of the better songs.
What I Didn’t: It was dull, and the dullness detracted from the performance. This made it less memorable than it otherwise could have been.
“Allez allez” (Hervé Toure)
What I Liked: This song was not a typical radio song and got to occupy its own lane. Standing out in this contest is a good thing.
What I Didn’t: It was just okay vocally and I was hoping to get something more captivating out of the performance.
“Hallucination” (Sissal)
What I Liked: It was perhaps the most interesting song in the lineup and she showed some vocal ability. The tempo helped it.
What I Didn’t: The lyrics were weak and it was something that we have heard before – made more for radio than for Eurovision.
“Hear My Prayer” (Andreas Kruse)
What I Liked: He had the most vocal range of anyone in this contest and the song itself was okay.
What I Didn’t: The falsetto interspersed throughout was unnecessary and I did not find the song as interesting as some others.
“I Belong to Me” (Mariya)
What I Liked: The sound of the song was not bad at all, and she is a respectable singer.
What I Didn’t: This was about as generic a radio pop song as you will hear, and any country could send this.
“Proud” (Tim Schou)
What I Liked: Overall one of the best singers in this year’s DMGP. Unrelated to today’s play-through, I would imagine as a former ESC act, he will know how to stage this.
What I Didn’t: The song is painfully cheesy and as a personal preference, I stay far away from most music that strays even a micron towards folksy.
“Supernova” (Max Ulver)
What I Liked: It was interesting, will play well on the radio, and he is a decent singer.
What I Didn’t: The lyrics were very weak.
“The Unluckiest Boy Alive” (Adel the Second)
What I Liked: This song occupied its own unique spot in this lineup and might have been the best composition overall.
What I Didn’t: The vocals were not for me at all.
DMGP 2025: General Impression and Top Three
It’s not like this is a bad lineup – on the contrary, I think several of these songs will do well on European radio stations after DMGP, or perhaps Eurovision for one of them. However, there is not much oomph in this eight-song slate, and I would not feel strongly about advocating for any of them for various reasons. In general, there are some variations, but most of it leads back to the same flavor: vanilla.
Our Scores: Top Four
